These orange cats are a really good source of diversion for my obsessively busy brain. They pulled new back to the ground to touch the earth and reality around me. My mind tended to go off on astral plane and abstract reality which could be a waste of time abs energy. Last week, I noticed how the big cat, Joan, could nimbly jump onto the fence pole. I wondered what he was up to so I walked towards the fence. There was a small black squirrel sitting on the fallen branch. He was staying too still on the same spot for several minutes. Then, I saw the smaller cat, Kwan, crept quietly under the branch. I had to do something to save the tiny squirrel who seemed to be a baby squirrel. I made some noises to frighten the squirrel so he had to jump to another bigger branch and started to run away.
Kwan was complaining that I spoiled all her plan, she almost got the squirrel. Joan was distracting the poor squirrel while letting Kwan went on an ambush! These two cats worked as a team. This reminded me of Snow, the bigger brother who used to hunt a snake as a team with Joan and Kwan when they were small kittens. I couldn’t believe that kittens could be so logical and analytical. Snow, seeing me coming forwards, he lay down on top of the snake so that I wouldn’t see what’s he hiding. He pretended to be sleepy while Joan and Kwan sat quietly and looked the other way. These were smart kittens full of tricks and survival instinct. I had to lift Snow up to let the snake crawl out so that I could rescue him. I threw him into the bamboo grove far away from my cats. I had rescue at least four or five snakes from my cats so far. My gardener was too afraid of snake to come near me. My cousin would scream her heads off whenever she saw a tiny snake.
I had the privilege of seeing my cat bringing field mice to my stairs. The last time was two weeks ago when Joan came running from the field across the other side with a big mouse in his mouth. He carried the heavy mouse while running towards me. I was horrified to see him with live mouse so I chased him down the stairs. Joan went back towards the field to do finish his business. I haven’t seen Kwan carrying a mouse around the garden but I saw her once with a bird in her mouth some time ago. My gardener told me that pigeons’ feathers were strewn in the fields. She suspected my cats as the hunters of these pigeons.
Somehow these cats seemed to have parallel reality: one as timid house cats who sleep all day and the alter reality of cool and quiet hunters in the evening. Perhaps this is for the best; it’s better that these cats are independent abs maintain their natural instinct and skills. Then I wouldn’t have to worry so much if something unexpected happened; we still couldn’t find the missing grandmother cat. She had disappeared for two months now. I hoped she did manage to find a nice house where she could have some shelter and food. I have been searching for her for two weeks without success.
These cats have become my friends and I am concerned about their well being as they mean a lot to me. It has been hard losing my cats; it took me several months and years to let the pain of losing beloved cats. Even now, I still think about the two cats at the shopping mall: Goldie and Sandy. Two of my favourite stray cats had disappeared from the temple; I am still searching for them whenever I went to feed stray cats at the temple. These cats with their sensitivity and thoughtfulness had touched me deeply; they could think and feel like children but they are innocent and communicate their feelings honestly. Once these cats decided to trust me, they give their trust completely without any conditions and fear. That’s why I respect their beings and natural endowments of wits and emotional expressions.
It’s good that they couldn’t talk in our language, otherwise I would be bombarded with guilts. I should have given them more time and attention; yet they never complained and accepted our lifestyle of uncertainty. I always feel very grateful to these cats for being themselves and giving me their trust and affection. Whenever life had been too upsetting, my orange cats could pick up mood and they would come closer to comfort me. I hope I could always look after these cats until until their old age.
Wishing you peace, good health and prosperity.
Stay strong and cheerful.
