My orange cats are definitely putting on weights but they look healthy and agile. So, I decided not to be too worried about trying too hard to reduce their weights. I continue to try to keep their feeding time at regular intervals, they expected to have some snacks twice a day. I had to give them some snacks to keep them satisfied then they would take their naps for several hours. It’s good to establish a routine for their feeding time and sleeping habits.
The two cats would sleep the whole morning until around lunchtime, they would get up to have some snacks. Then they would sleep until around five o’ clock. If I was still busy working in the garden, they would wait around patiently for me to get back to the kitchen for some refreshment after the hard work. They would just sit there waiting quietly without making any protest. I had to say sorry for being late for their dinner time. They were always very understanding and ate their food with enthusiasm.
Then they would go downstairs to enjoy the cool evening. In the morning, these orange cats would sleep in cool area around the east side of the sitting room where all the shades were closed to keep the strong sunshine from entering. The temperature inside this room is up to five degrees cooler than outside the house. I kept the room dark and quiet so my cats could have long naps.
In the evening I would take a slow walk around the garden to see what was needed to be done the following days. My cats would come towards me and followed me like small puppies. Recently I found out that they responded to my calling out their names. I would shouted out for Kwan as I couldn’t find her inside the house late at night. She would be running up the stairs to see me waiting for her at the door. It’s quite funny seeing Kwan’s short legs shuffling so fast to be by my side. Joan would walk slowly to come close to me. Both cats liked to stand by my legs for their safety while I was standing in front of the gate. The three stray dogs still patrol the dirt road at night.
Sometimes these cats surprised me by quietly coming to sit under my chair. I guessed it’s their ways to show their affection. They even talked to me in their soft meowing voice as if they were asking me how I was doing. These cats could pick up my moods very fast just like dogs and puppies. They would come closer to give me their moral support.
During my evening walking meditation in the front yard, orange cats would act like bodyguards watching the front gate for any intruders. So, they seemed to behave like puppies while maintaining their own cat nature and independence. My cats continue to surprise me with their occasional expressions of affection and their effort to talk to me. I think I am witnessing some different learning process in my cats. I couldn’t wait for them to show me their potentials and more surprises in the near future.
