I've checked what "extended metaphor" means from your link. It is really a great "extended metaphor" poem. However, this poem and the quotation from King Canute (always lot of new things to learn in your blogs)just make me feel that Liverpool city is such a historic and blessed city, since Iron men like the loyal sentinals against the tide are guarding the sea around it. Who can't love Liverpool？ In fact, by following a series of your blogs, Liverpool city and its Mersey river are so near to me in my mind. I even begin to believe there is really an amorous mermaid watching Mersey river day and night.
