In this contemporary digital age, the IT field / industry feels so significant and prominent since we help shape and maintain the digital landscape that helps modern society function more efficiently. So as everything with this amount of significance and power upon the world, there's bound to be issues that come with it. Issues that associate the Information Technology field includes anything that affects an individual, a group or society as a whole in a negative way, through the use of developing technology. Although technology has it's undeniable perks and helpfulness, making it necessary for the world to function correctly, a lot of ways are still done to exploit our access to technology.
One such issue includes the existence of Social Media. Social Media has revolutionized the way we communicate, It gave some positive effects on our culture as the human race, such as free global access to information and interconnectivity world-wide. Despite numerous positive changes, it still has some negative effects, such as the spread of toxic trends, hate speech and misinformation.
Another issue leaning more into the professional side is the matter of Privacy within the industry. In today's digitized world, the amount of information and data processed in the world is innumerable. It is used everywhere within every computer system. This includes personal information about yourself, your activity and numerous other factors. All this data is processed, stored and used by the computer systems and applications that we use daily. The professionals of the IT Industry is the vanguard of this problem since they are the ones who need to make sure that the data processed used and served remain in-tact and ensures integrity.
This also brings the importance of ethics within the IT field. Since we have all this power over information and technology in the world, we must ensure our moral compass are still lining up towards the good of society.
