I have been to the cafes at the supermarket, so I was surprised at what I walked into. It was a treat from my bestie who had been waiting to take me out for a nice chit chat session for my birthday. It's way past and I tried to convince her it was not neccessary and I am so glad she didn't listen.
I walked in and squeled (in my head) with delight. It was so inviting and the place was still empty when we stepped in. Good thing I took the pictures first because it very quickly filled up after that.
We decided to sink into the sofa/coffee table area as opposed to the tables or the booths. There was a tea light already lit adding to the cosy.
Choices were limited; but we didn't mind. We were there to catch up anyways. The pastas were apparently good but I was feeling like a salad and my friend felt like local.
The service was a little underwhelming. We had to literally wave like crazy to get their attention. But once they got to us, they were very nice and helpful. Even though water wasn't on the menu, we got our warm water with a slice of lime.
While waiting for the food, my friend had to attend to a very important call and I took the opportunity to be a typical blogger and ran around to take some pictures so I can share them with you.
The cozy sofas around the middle of the restaurant.
The kitchen is behind the glass on the right, and you can watch them cook your meal if you were so inclined to.
Yep, an actual car, strategically placed in the center.
Lots of greens in pots and vases on tables, black and white photographs on the walls and pillars. I believe they are photographs of the owner's family.
The restuaruant is deep. And when you walk further in, there are booths.
And at the end of the row of booths, take a right and there is a play area for kids. And a pretty big one too.
And the chequed floor adds to the rustic, homely atmosphere.
With nooks, crannies and corners, it's great for just a hangout session and even a party. In fact, there was a group of 20 who walked in with balloons and tied them to the chairs to celebrate a birthday.
The mix and match of furniture added to the casual and laid back ambience.
Then while chatting, I fiddled with the cards in the container that said "Cut the Plastic" and realised they were questions for ice-breakers and/or conversations starters.
A good place for a first date too, I would say.
That's my Ceasers Salad with chicken. Forgot to tell them no anchovies please. I enjoyed it, though I got full about two mouths before finish.
I wanted the Aoili dip more than the fries but it was a great combo. The Parmeson added to it though I had to doggy bag most of it. The kids didn't complain haha.
That's Nasi Kerabu, blue colored rice served with fresh herbs, fish crackers, salted egg, spicy sauces and your choice of chicken or fish, sometimes beef. My friends took chicken.
And I had to beg my friend to show me the bill so I could complete my review. We did consider wine, but we were already too full and it was getting late. We also realised it was Thanksgiving (we do not celebrate it in my country) but I want to say I am truly blessed to have a friend like her.
Cheers,
