I had all of these noble goals this past week. Well, by "all" of these noble goals I really mean one: returning to the fictional written word after over a month of intermittent sickness... but alas, the cutesy post-apocalyptic world of Portia has grabbed me, held me down, and rendered me unable to do much else other than my daily chores and responsibilities.
The end of Month 3 approaches, my little lady is slowly climbing the ranks of The Great Builders and is on the tail of her nemesis, Higgins. A mere 2000 points separates her from her antagonist! Will she surpass him?
OF COURSE SHE WILL!
Ahem. Anyway.
Since my last post on this wonderful game, Kaelci the Soon-to-be Greatest Builder in All The Land has been a little more social! And I am impressed with the social system.
Although, I am a little turned off by the game referring to social interactions as "playing" but that could simply be because I'm in my thirties and "play dates," in my motherly opinion, are solely for little children.
However, once I got over the idea of hitting the "play" button, my little lady decided to ask Arlo, leader of the Civil Corps to "play" with her, and was pleased when he didn't laugh at my lady, call her a child, and simply made a time available for the next day.
Even though it wasn't a date, I decided to go spend $15,000 moneys on some elegant-wear from the church, which had better stats than the last clothes I was wearing so woo!, and go visit the hair stylist. And also replace rosy cheeks with freckles.
And then, the next day, I discovered what the "play" was all about.
You get a certain amount of action points for each play or date interaction, which you can get more of as you level up your Social skill tree, and you use those action points to try and make your friend as happy as possible.
You can play on the see-saw or swing, like a child and not a grown-arse couple, or you can have grown-up talk beneath a tree, go eat at the restaurant, play the games in the gaming room, and some other things that I apparently haven't unlocked yet like balloon rides and stuff.
My character completed her first "plaaaaaay" with flying colours and got a nice amount of friendship points after the scenario ended. Hooray!
But then, as though realising my character was open to actually hanging out with people and not simply doing chores all day, the nexxxttt day my little lady opened her front door to find the good doctor stalking her.
"Hellooooo," he says. "I couldn't help but notice you with Arlo yesterday. Wanna hang?"
"Sure!" my character replies.
And then another "play" ensues the next day.
BUT! That interaction alone makes me soooo happy. Another character, an NPC, invited myyyyy character out!! That never happens in games. Thank you My Time At Portia developers!! I am sick of my character always having to ask everyone else out and no-one showing any interest in her ever.
It's such a breath of fresh air.
I love it.
AND THEN. As though confused by all the sudden socialising going on in town. The socially estranged scientist demanded that my lady ask her out.
And then left an insulting letter in the mailbox the next day.
As you do after someone expends great effort and money to give you the best experience of your life. But at least I got a camera out of it!
