Yes! I am tearing myself away from this most wonderful game to actually write a post about it. 😂
I've become rather obsessed over the past week or so.
Not quite so obsessed that I've been glued to it nonstop; we've still been going out to lunch, seeing friends, watching movies, and got our second Covid jabs, ugh, my arm is hurting and I couldn't sleep last night. But obsessed enough! Steam tells me I've played 78 hours of New World... maybe 8-12 of those were AFK because you MUST LEAVE THE GAME ON or risk being kicked and placed in a queue!
Actually, the queue situation isn't quite so bad now. I'm actually turning the game off when going AFK now because if there is a queue, it only lasts maybe 2 minutes and my little laptop needs to cool down a bit.
No, my laptop isn't having the issue of the 3000 series graphics cards everyone is paranoid about. It's a laptop. It gets hot. Even with Throttlestop active. At least I'm no longer getting 100 degrees Celsius like I was last year but still, 80 to 85 degrees is still a bit warm. Need to let my baby have a rest every so often.
Anyway, enough babbling about the real world; we're here to talk about the New World!
I am currently level 33 and I've breached 100 in several skills.
I've crafted so many necklaces and rings, have sold so many on various trading posts, and I currently have 14,000 moneys and am reaching the Everfall Area Reputation requirement to buy one of the better houses!
This is the house I'm planning on buying.
It's a Tier 4 home nicely situated close to the Town Quest Board and War Board. It has a little bit of a front yard, a little bit of a backyard, and is only two storeys, but I didn't really like the look of the three storey one.
Being a Tier 4 house, I will be allowed to fast-travel to it for free every 2 hours, and be able to place up to 4 storage upgrades. Which will be fantastic! I need all the storage for my vast hoard of gatherables!
I'm also planning on buying two more houses -- you can have a total of three -- but I'm not sure where I want them located just yet. I'm planning on being strategic with them. At first I was thinking on opposite sides of the land, so I could fast-travel with relative ease, but now I'm thinking at the more populated city-hubs for Trading Post purposes.
Hmm. Decisions, decisions. Won't be for a while anyway. I'll work it out!
Last night, my partner and I decided to try out the very first Expedition. A dungeon-type thingee for level 25. On the door it says that it's for groups of 3-to-5 players, but I'm not quite sure I'd recommend going in with three.
I was the healer at level 33, the tank was 36, and my partner and the other two DPS's were all high-20s. And we did it with no deaths, and I feel like I was healing quite well for my first group experience in this game, but there were a few points where I was a bit worried.
The single-target healing in this game leaves much to be desired. I've had to turn off targeted healing in the settings because whilst out and about questing and gathering, if I tried to throw an AoE heal beneath my feet a lot of the time it'd automatically go on some other person running by.
With single target healing, I really need the person to be standing still as I cast or the heal will miss them entirely. As a result, I was mostly relying on my two AoE heals and shooting light attacks to heal people. I was very disappointed with that single target heal and I'm going to go through the weapon tree for the Life Staff and choose a different ability.
I also signed up for a big PvP battle last night.
The Covenant declared war on my Syndicate-held Everfall and I applied to join the army. Alas, my request to join was sadly knocked back. 😞 Looks like the best way to get into these large-scale battles is to be apart of the guild who currently owns the land and not be just some random lone wolf.
Unfortunately I prefer to be a lone wolf, in a tiny guild with just me and my friends, so I guess I won't be able to experience these territory-claiming battles.
I'm still really enjoying this game. And I'm surprised that my partner is still enjoying it too. This game is perfect for me with it's crafting and gathering and trading, house system, the grind! I love this type of thing. But my partner has always been a bit iffy when it comes to this kind of gameplay.
He seems to really be enjoying himself though! So I guess that's some positive endorsement if someone's on the fence about getting it because it seems like a big ol' grind.
Today I'm hoping to reach Everfall Reputation 30 so I can buy my house, and then I plan on working on my Furnishing skills!
You can find random furnishing schematics and also random furniture whilst out and about and rummaging through chests, so I hope to furnish my house with all kinds of nifty things in the future! And not just the crappy Ash Coloured Furniture the game gives you to start with. 😅
Onwards, it's time to return to Aeternum!
