Animals (pets) are lovely creatures that I like to be around me because they can be a source of comfort, knowing I have a buddy that makes me happy without any expectations.
Do I have a pet?
No is the answer but I've been opportuned to stay with and care for a cat. My grandma owned a white cute cat. Most africans don't like cats because they a wrong believe or misconception about them, believing that they are connected to witchcraft and dangerous.
I found myself in the middle of it. You know when you are in community where people have certain beliefs. I hated cats until I went to spend some time in the village with my grandma. I met this cute white cat and jumped at first when it came close. I asked why they would keep such an evil animal in the house and my grandmother said the cat was harmless and it helped keep rats away.
Few days later, I feel in love with the cat. I noticed it loved to be around people and would snuggle very close. The cat loved soft spots, it had a favorite spot in the house.
Unfortunately the cat went out as usual but never came back. My grandmother looked and waited but it never came. Later we got informed that it was killed by those who believed cats are witches.
I would like to have pets in the future if I can afford it. Caring for a pet requires time, space and money as well and currently, I don't think it's something I can handle. I remember when I visited a friend for her daughters graduation ceremony, I met their dogs and they were so cute that I felt like going home with one. They were well cared for, trained and seemed like they understood when spoken to. I was so happy watching how they lightened the atmosphere.
If I have the opportunity to own a pet then it would be a dog and a cat. I love how cute they are and how funny they can be sometimes. They make me feel good and animal love unconditionally 馃挄
The hardest part would be bathing and brushing their teeths. I know animals don't really like bathing and I don't even know the struggle that I would have to face to brush their teeths. Another challenge would be to care for them when they are ill since they can't explain their pains. I can't even imagine the frustration.
Regardless, animals help lighten the mood, make us laugh and feel good. They can also be good companion and make us feel less bored. If I have the capacity and own a home of my own in the future, I won't hesitate to get a pet.
Just having it follow me around makes me feel good and loved.
