" You must have heard people saying that no one has seen God, that it is a matter of devotion, faith and one's belief but when you have loving parents then you've seen God".
These words were paraphrased from an hindi movie I watched last night that left me soaked in tears a few hours before dawn.
My mother had said to me often before that parents were our second God but it made no atom of sense to me till last night.

Now you could be in your late teens, 20's, 30's, 40's... You could even have kids of your own already.
But no matter how old you are, you are someone's child and this post should resonate with you one way or the other.
Maybe you've lost your parents already.
But...
We are all God's children.
And God is love.
There is so much love to go around and extend even to people who we have no blood ties with.

It was our parents who gave us safe passage into this world.
It was our parents' hand that held us while we took our first baby steps.
It was from their hands and lips we got chastisement in other that we might grow to be better people.
It was their backs, waist and brows that bent and sweated and toiled for whatever little comfort they could give us to be happy children.
It was their stomachs that went hungry sometimes that we might feed.
It was their knees that bent, their heads that bowed to say prayers for us even when we couldn't pray for ourselves.
It was their eyes that shed tears of pain when they watched us suffer in sickness.
It was their pride and dignity that was bruised when they had to borrow loans to make ends meet.
It was they who gave up some of their dreams that we might attain ours.
Even when we disappoint them, they do not turn their backs on us, their anger lasting only for awhile.
If they die without leaving huge monetary inheritance and estates can we still say they have done nothing for us?
Now we are here.
All grown up.
Facing life.
They are not as strong as they used to be.
Those shoulders on which we once sat to see the world are drooping.
Those hands that threw us up in the air and caught us are trembling.
Those lips that once sang lullabies are parched.
Those backs and knees that went the extra mile are aching.
Why do we hesitate to give light to those eyes that are now weak?
If they helped us take the first steps of life why cant we help them take the final steps?
Now that so much loneliness sets in why cant we put a smile on their faces often?
One phone call can go a long way...
Visit them as often as you get the chance.
Do not put it off another day, week or month.
Now to those who do not have fond memories of their parents,
Please be cheerful.
Be thankful for how far you've come in life and for where you are going.
And for all the love you will give and receive.
This is me and my mother.
This is my father and I.
In the end, may our parents not be absent when we start winning.
Amen.
