I took this photo of a comma butterfly in my daughter's back garden. I never used to see very many of these but there seems to be more of them about this year. Which is strange as there are generally less insects around. Commas are quite easy to identify. Apart from their wing colour and pattern, which resembles the pattern of a tortoiseshell butterfly, their wings are jagged and could be mistaken for being damaged. But it's jagged wings are quite natural.
This one was sunning itself on the garden fence. It stayed still just long enough for me to photograph it with my phone camera and then flew off. However it must like that position on the fence because a few minutes later it reappeared in exactly the same place and position.
