All new way of stealing Electronic DATA which is known as Skimming
Skimming refers to the process of reading only Main Ideas within a passage; It is to get an overall impression of the content. It is one of the ways fraudsters use while capturing data from magnetic stripes on the back of an ATM card.
The device used is smaller than the deck's card. It is often installed on top of a card reader installed close by or ATM. ATM skimming is a global problem, especially this stealing technique is used in the western countries.
It is a reading technique that can help fraudsters to steal the digital data through the skimming devices which are placed on an ATM machine, It could be any hardware component which looks like the below images or it can also be a component which is placed inside of an ATM machine.
These are the two types of skimming devices which are used by the fraudsters to steal the credentials of an electronic card, once a person is attacked by these skimmers then their personal data is no longer safe.
Upon investigation, we learnt that these skimmers are made using few spar’s/components of a mobile device which sends the stolen card data through a text message or the data is saved within the device, after which the data is retrieved by the fraudster by connecting the device to a computer.
The fraudster can easily monetize the electronic cash by using the credentials to make an online payment or by purchasing some products like mobiles or laptops by which they can convert the digital cash into physical
There are many more modern devices which can steal The Electronic card details - Credit Card, Debit Card or Gift Cards, just by placing it over the Electronic Devices like mobile phones which has a Tap to pay option
People should be careful while travelling with the Electronic cards or mobile phones by safeguarding their Data with the help of an e-Wallet or by adding a double layer security to their devices.
