Last night I wanted to watch this show called Ted Lasso, just to realize that it was season 3, and there were 2 other seasons. So I decided to start watching it from season 1. So here is my review of the first season.
Ted Lasso seems to be a great coach, loved by everyone, but also that has gone through some issues, as he is a supermarket manager. This is shown by the wife of an ex-football player who made a face as she put the 2 and 2 together and something was off seeing him as a super market manager instead of being a rockstar working for some fancy university.
So even season 1 seems to not be the very beginning of the story but I guess all that was saved for a prelude episode or something will eventually tell the story how he end up in such a low end job. However, soon an opportunity opened as a football soccer coach on the other side of the pound. In good ol' England, a job that was carefully tailored to accommodate him as a escape goat of some family dispute.
A.F.C. Richmond, a struggling soccer team in the Premier League, lands in the middle of a messy divorce battle when the owner loses the club in the settlement. Now, a bitter ex-wife inherits the team with zero interest in football, planning to run it into the ground purely to spite her former husband. However, skipping the spoilers, the heartwarming premise follows an optimistic American coach whose bright personality and unwavering positivity conquer the hearts of both the players and the front office.
The show excels by showcasing dynamic workplace relationships and humorous interactions that explore how genuine leadership can positively influence people. It highlights how inspiring others to buy into a shared vision fosters true teamwork. We see fierce rivals and defensive alpha males learn to protect their pride while collaborating for the team's betterment without bruising fragile egos. Even a cynical journalist originally sent to destroy the coach's reputation finds himself completely disarmed by a genuinely good human being who refuses to meet cynicism with malice, transforming professional skepticism into deep, lasting respect and unexpected friendship.
