The act of not being coachable has made many businesses in Nigeria to stop functioning. These businesses are managed by those who finds it very difficult to be coachable or even adapt to the modern ways of during things and handling transactions. Even though we still remain the continent with a highly rewarding business. In my country any one can do business if you want to however, it still surprises me when I see die hard people who strongly believe that remaining in a paid employment until retirement is the ultimate. I personally see this as a parochial view of life and purpose. I believe that if you love your nation and the generation to come, then it is better you stand in a position where you can positively impact it.
To be fare in reasoning and judgment over this issue, we know that the amount of people on ground even if it is 20 million would multiply in the next ten to fifteen years to come, how will all that population get a daily job if those who are supposed to transit from paid employment and have a business of their own in other to mitigate the unemployment crisis which will positively move up the GDP of our nation, fails to do so.
I often say it is hypocrisy to often complain or lament over a country that you have no interest for, nor do you bother about. The process of given birth to your dream in favor of yourself and the nation at large is an evident that you have the interest of the nation at heart.
I have heard some many reasons why doing business overseas is far better than here. The content of the argument includes, good roads, power supply, availability of facilities, necessary support and security, this I consider as childish and non-meaningful argument. Why do I say so? The fact remains that whatever infrastructures or facilities on ground in any part of the world is not just for you but for all those who are available to do business in that part of the country, or the world at large. So, if equal opportunity is given to you and your competitors, what makes a place, region or country better than the others in owning a business? So, assuming that abroad will help you better to succeed faster than Nigeria in doing business holds no meaning. The truth remains that, it is not just about the environment. It is about you, yes you. It is about your capacity and business skills irrespective of where you are. Your competitors are there, your customers are there as well, so what skills do you have?
What knowledge do you have in business management? The fact still remains for those of you who have been to Nigeria or is familiar with it, knows that most of the top management in strategy and finance are mainly foreigners. Why? Most of the top and fast growing company and super markets in Nigeria belongs to foreigners. So my friend, it is not about the environment but the skills, ability, know-how and capacity to manage a business successfully.
Let’s continue later. Thanks for the day and your time, I appreciate.
