Close to the beach was a large piece of land mostly covered with beautiful garden and a big house. The sitting room had tall glass windows that gave a view of the beach and large enough to welcome any ray of the sun, it also possess a large gallery filled with amazing artworks with two giant staircase leading upstairs, the POP carved ceiling which had a fancy expensive chandelier was so high that if two giraffes climbed on-top each other their heads won’t touch the ceiling.
A big house, the kind in which most Nigerian kids dreamed of growing up. Secluded among flowers on one of Lagos most exclusive streets, it had turrets, gables, a swimming pool, dormers, balconies, a screened-in front porch, a free-standing garage, and a gazebo. There’re no better words to describe this mansion and wealthy home which was so poor due to the peace it lacked, even the view and calmness of the beach couldn’t bring calmness to the home.
This home is basically every Nigerian kid dream except for Kent and Stellabella who envied kids living in a small home peacefully. On the fancy looking soft sofa was seated Kent and Stellabella.
“A good mind is sharper than a bad sword” was the last audible words Kent said to Stellabella before the voice of their parent quarrelling beclouded Kent’s voice. It was a custom for Kent and Stellabella to tell each other stories every evening during her holiday from the boarding school but this evening story has been ruined by the misunderstanding between their parent.
While their parent approached to meet Kent and Stellabella in the sitting room to clear out their point of view and get the support of the kids, their voice got louder and Kent as usual immediately put on his AirPods then grabbed a bucket to go and fetch water so he can water the already watered flowers to cause a distraction for himself and not get involved in the quarrel because on several occasions he has tried to resolve their issues but it has never been successful while his sister Stellabella quickly rushed before her mom and dad to know what induced the misunderstanding.
A clenched jaw, intense eye contact, furrowed brows and reddened skin was the facial expression of her father with his hands crossed over his chest while her mother drew in long breaths while twisting the wedding ring on her finger. The only good thing about her parent misunderstanding was that they’ve never been involved in physical violence.
Stellabella heart skipped while the time seemed to slow down, she wasn’t intimidated by the looks on her parent face but was surprised that after all these years her parent still have regular misunderstandings. She has never been involved in her parents quarrel but this time around she knew she had to do something.
Stellabella asked them what was wrong as her mother immediately answered, she spoke through her teeth. After a session of listening to the both she said some words.
Stellabella was only 17 years old but the words that came out of her mouth was that of a wise 80 years old man with lots of experience, her parent couldn’t help but listen to such brilliant words of an 80 years old man after-all they were in their fourties’. The words she spoke was enough to give that rich home the only thing it lacked which was peace and was also enough to prevent the parents from quarrelling for the rest of their lives.
Kent entered the sitting room with a bucket of water in his hand after rounds of watering the already watered garden, the scene he witnessed made his legs stiff like they were planted in the ground just like the flowers he was watering, his eyes witnessed his parent hugging each other passionately with tears and love in their eyes while seeking each other forgiveness, the bucket of water dropped from his hand, the wave the sudden drop formed in the water looked so much like smiling faces although it didn’t smile as passionately as Kent did.
He hasn’t seen his parent like this in a longtime. He realised Stellabella has performed her magic again but this time it was on their parent, he walked up to her, held her on her shoulders, while looking into her eyes he told her that she’s a very brilliant and loving girl and their parent didn’t make a mistake in giving her the name Stellabella which mean “She is as beautiful as the most brilliant star on the sky”
