미국 증권거래위원회(SEC)가 상장지수펀드(ETF) 등록 절차 간소화에 나섰다고 28일 월스트리트저널(WSJ)이 보도했다
SEC는 현재 3조5천억 달러에 해당하는 ETF 산업과 관련해 80년 전에 정해진 규칙을 새롭게 바꾸는 제안서를 제출했다.
이에 따라 투자자들에게 새로운 ETF 상품을 소개하는 것이 더 쉬워질 것으로 기대된다.
ETF가 처음 나온 1990년대부터 ETF 신상품 승인은 단 하나의 예외 규정에 기대왔다. 이는 지난 1940년에 만들어진 예외 규칙이다.
이에 대해 모닝스타 ETF 리서치의 벤 존슨 이사는 "지난 30년 동안 하나의 예외 규칙으로 시장이 돌아가긴 했으나 이제 이것을 멈출 때"라고 설명했다.
그동안 많은 ETF 상품들은 예외 규칙을 적용받아 왔다. 이와 관련된 정확한 규제나 골격이 없었던 상황이다.
에릭 밸커너스 블룸버그인텔리전스 ETF 담당 애널리스트는
“이번 ETF 승인 신청으로 인해 비트코인 ETF 허용을 반대해온 이유 중 일부가 해소될 수 있을 것”이라며 머지
않아 비트코인 ETF 상장이 가능할 수 있을 것으로 내다봤다.
