Hello! Today I want to show you guys my entry for the 2nd pixel art contest.
I think that this week's theme was definitely more challenging than the previous week. For some reason I had a lot of failed attempts because crystals have so many faces and it was difficult for me to recreate values and edges in a pleasant way but I did my best and I'm satisfied with the results 😊 .
Here's my entry
So here's an overview of my process.
These were my references
For the third crystal I decided to try to draw one myself without a reference even though I did check here and then similar shaped crystals to get an idea of the colors I could use.
This is how I finished the crystal using the reference picture. It doesn't look as sharp as the reference 😅. It looks more like those broken in half geodes that expose a colorful inside. So I decided to experiment with the hues and ended up changing the crystal to a purple one.
It was easy for me to start this one by diving its faces.
And then patiently worked on the details.
Just as with the purple one, I started this one with a different set of colors.
I first worked on the shape.
Then added shapes. At this point the crystal looked more like an egg plant 🍆. 🤣 (it would be fun for a contest to be vegetable or fruit themed by the way. 😋 )
Then started to work on the details.
For some reason I still couldn't see anything other than an eggplant haha so I changed the hue and I thought that green would look nicer and finally more like a crystal.
And that's it. My first attempt at drawing pixel crystals was challenging but I enjoyed it either way.
Thank you for stopping by my post! 🤗
