Miya's Dedication Day

Children are indeed gifts from God. It's a favor and privilege for parents to be given the opportunity to nurture and guide them. I am happy that my brother and his wife decided to dedicate their little angel, Miya or Zamiyah. She's already five months old, she was dedicated yesterday during our local church service in front of the congregation. It's always great to witness one and we do this because it is what is Biblical.

I am unsure if I shared Matti's dedication here, but he was also dedicated in his 5th month. I was initially planning to do it on his first birthday, but I couldn't figure now why I did it in his fifth month. Anyway, I could have been spared from spending on two celebrations, but things happen for a reason.

And so, for this event, I'd like to share the reason why we do the baby dedication.

1. Dedicating the baby recognizes that the baby is a gift from God.
2. We release ownership of the baby knowing that we are just stewards of this precious soul.
3. God has lifted up to us the responsibility to raise our kids to the instruction of the Lord realizing that we as parents have a role in the baby such as:

• Builders of Godly characters and values, we are to disciple our kids together with the church as the secondary partner and God.
• Watchmen. We are to guide our children to do good deeds by disciplining them and never to delegate this primary role to others. Guarding their influences as well as being involved in the life of our children.
• Providers. This is very important and it doesn't just mean financial but also the emotional needs of our children. We must be there to hug, speak encouragement, and provide for the spiritual needs of our kids.

Lastly, we do dedicate our children as an act of worship to our living God. It was modeled by Mary and Joseph, the parents of Jesus.

I hope that these points were noted by the parents and even the secondary sponsors. It is a great responsibility indeed to be a parent and we can't do it alone that's why we need an entire community.

On that day, we also invited some of the church members to join us for lunch as we celebrate this milestone in the lives of my brother and his wife. They cooked and prepared good food for everyone!
