We were, she and I, in this lovely April
Of the love that begins in dazzling.

O memories! oh time! hours fainted!
We went, with our heart full of unbelievable ecstasies,
Together in the woods, and hand in hand.

To take the path we left the path,
We left the path to walk in the grass.

The sky shone in his superb looks;
She said: I love you! and I felt god.

Sometimes, near a spring, we sat down a little.
How many times I showed his throat to the branches of a tree!
Blushing and like the naiads of marble,
You bathed your bare, white feet like milk.

Then we went dreaming. It seemed to me,
Looking around us the daisies,

The golden buds, the secret periwinkles
And the fresh bindweeds of pure water watered,
That these little flowers were all kisses
Fallen in the way of my mouth to your mouth
while we walked; and the wild creek
And the wild bramble and the bald and black rock,
Envious, whispered: What will
Diane say tonight to the chaste eyes, the starry goddess,
Seeing all the grass in the bottom of the trampled wood?
