But for many people, and me too, obeying God's will is one of the most difficult things. At times I want to go to my ways for they are easier and quicker. As I keep learning the word of God, I know that peace is only when I obey Him. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. This scripture reminds me that God has a plan for my life that I may not understand, but He knows what it is.

Obedience is sometimes a “pain in the ass.” Sometimes it's God's will for me to be patient, to forgive people, to give up some of my bad habits. My flesh may not like it, but I know that obedience brings blessings. Jesus Christ Himself showed the perfect example of obedience. Jesus prayed, “Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” (Luke 22:42) I really felt like Jesus' heart was in the right place with this verse because, in suffering, He still wanted to obey the Father.

There have been times in my life that I do not pay attention to God's will and then regret it later. I knew that disobedience only led to trouble and heartache. However, when I heard from God, and obeyed His word, I had peace in my heart. It was not easy, but I knew that God was with me. Obedience doesn't always bring instant comfort but it brings infinite joy and direction.

Being a Christian I continue to learn how to give my life to God every day. I know there are things I don't do well, but I hope to have His strength to do them. “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15). Obedience is the expression of true love for God. My prayer is that God will help me walk in His will daily and never let my desires and will keep me from God.
