The following images were made using Leonardo.ai, my build of Disco Diffusion, photo-manipulation, photobashing & sketching in Gimp and Inkscape, and post editing/composition in darktable.
One is never so awake as when they are dreaming, for in that state, they do not wonder if they are indeed awake or asleep. It's awaken that the doubt persists.
Therefore, we are never as awake as when we do not doubt that we are ; 'tis not the state that defines itself, but the presence and the perception of the moment.
From there, we can assume that presence and immersion in the moment, whatever the activity may be, is what defines our perception of what is real/awake.
On the other hand, not being present, not knowing why we are doing things, not immersing ourselves in what we do, not being connected to our actions, is like sleep walking.
