Curiously the book that the text is taken from initially, is called Bhagavad Gita As it Is. I found it interesting that you mention seeing things as they really are. So you are at the right place.
That said, experience and the senses are not enough to understand higher points like consciousness. The senses are imperfect and the mind makes mistakes, cheats and is subject to illusion. Therefore we need knowledge from books like Bhagavad Gita. Interpreting through the mind and senses alone is not enough. We must see through the eyes of the Veda, through knowledge from the books of the Veda. That is how the teachers present the path of enlightenment to us.
