Yes we transcend the gender of our temporary physical identity, but we have an eternal permanent identity and gender. The great mystic bhakti yogis of the Vaishnava (Vishnu/Krishna) lineage speak of accessing our eternal personality of a gopi - a female lover of Krishna the original and only male.
Or one's eternal relationship may be that of a gopa (male equivalent) friend of Krishna. These are the primary two top relationships based on our transcendental gender of either masculine or feminine, with the deity as the source of the love or friendship.

There are three secondary relationships possible, that of being in parental, servitude or neutral relationship with Krishna the deity, but the top two are generally referred to. They are known in Sanskrit as Madhurya rasa (lover) and Sakhya rasa (friend).
