Obviously love means a lover and a beloved. There are two, not one. The concept of losing personality and merging into oneness is denied in this verse.

I guess that's one way of looking at it. But I have always considered love as synonymous with oneness, because love makes what initially are two things, as you say, come together and become one. Although they are two things, love unites them, and therefore, they become one. That's the way I interpreted it when I read it. But, of course, my interpretation is that of a layman.

We are in spirit, all the lovers of god. This is what it really means to be “trans-gender”. We have a transcendental gender, and personality, and love affair with god. This verse in the Gita clearly tells us in clear words about our state of “bhava” or love of god.

Weird stuff this. :) I never thought of love for God in this way. I never thought that we have a transcendental gender, but rather that we transcend gender.

The Bhagavad Gita does have a lot to teach.
