There are occasions, when observing those numerous groups of tourists who visit the most emblematic, historical and interesting places in Madrid by the hand of expert guides - a profession that promises a promising future - I remember those anecdotal harangues of History - that today, possibly, are not found in the studies of our schoolchildren - like that of Napoleon Bonaparte when he invaded Egypt -'Soldiers, from the top of these pyramids, forty centuries contemplate you'! - and seeing them stopped in front of the statues of our historical kings -including the endless and unpronounceable list of the Gothic kings- to think that in their time they were also at the top of a great pyramid -the social one- from which they wove, for better or for worse, the threads of a History , ours, as old as the world.
Hay ocasiones, en las que observando a esos numerosos grupos de turistas que visitan los lugares más emblemáticos, históricos e interesantes de Madrid de la mano de guías expertos -profesión a la que se augura un prometedor futuro- recuerdo esas anecdóticas arengas de la Historia -que hoy, posiblemente no se encuentren en los estudios de nuestros escolares- como la de Napoleón Bonaparte cuando invadió Egipto –‘¡Soldados, desde la cima de estas pirámides, cuarenta siglos os contemplan’!- y al verlos detenidos frente a las estatuas de nuestros reyes históricos -incluidos la interminable e impronunciable lista de los reyes godos- pensar que en su tiempo también ellos estuvieron en la cima de una gran pirámide -la social- desde la que tejieron, para bien o para mal, los hilos de una Historia, la nuestra, tan vieja como el mundo.
