We explored parts of the Shikoku 四国 region in Japan on a rented car recently. Shikoku is one of the 4 islands of Japan (the other 3 being Hokkaido, Honshu main island, and Kyushu) and is the one that we hadn't visited before.
We budgeted 4 days for the trip but it was not enough. Shikoku is much bigger than I thought. In the end, we managed to visit 3 of the 4 prefectures in Shikoku. The name Shikoku literally means "4 countries", represented by the 4 prefectures so it was a pity that we couldn't visit all 4 of them.
Shikoku is also one of the least visited destinations in Japan and that is perfect for us as we would avoid areas flooded with tourists. There are so much to see though and we even visited a destination that we saw on "Japan Hour".
Places that we went includes;
This trip was a mixture of exploring the nature, enjoying long driving hours on the roads, eating great local cuisines, and of course visiting and shopping at local shopping streets.
