Jimmy Wales - co-founder of wikipedia- stated his point of view on bitcoin and cryptocurrencies during yesterdays blockshow-conference in berlin. His verdict? The crypto-market is in a bubble!
His reported statements about blockchain-technology were positiv. The Wikimedia Foundation, to which he serves in leading positions, accepts Bitcoin since 2014.
Leading to the question, how and if these positions are contradictiv.
The answer is simply 'No'. If we are taking a closer look on what Mr. Wales explained, he does not blame Bitcoin. According to him the trouble is a result of two types of ICO's.
- the fraudulent ones
- those ICO's that lack rational sense and value - in other words: businesses who are not needed, but considered cool cause they use crypto
In conclusio: the bubble Jimmy Wales talks about is not the technology or it's value. It's the vast number of redudant 'currencies'.
