Small Wins enable us to strive and seek more to be the best version of ourselves. And, Woohoo! Today, I am celebrating my 3rd year as a demand planner. Amidst the pandemic we are in now, I know a lot of people lost their jobs that is why I am so blessed that I can celebrate mine. 💛
Actually, from the time I graduated college, I am now working for almost 5 years. Funny to think that when we were mere students, we thought that exams and projects were sooo tiring, yet we never thought that the real fight is to pay the bills and the stress/pressure from work’s daily activities. This is because the reality isn’t being dependent on our parents anymore. Working means, it is now our responsibility already to face those life problems – bills, savings, and personal expenses. As one of the breadwinners, I can say that it is really difficult.
My first job was as a branch supervisor in a bakery - San Jose Bakeshop. I spent 6 months as a management trainee and got promoted as a supervisor in a branch and worked for a year. It was challenging. My subordinates were much older than me and because of that, I am expected to understand and respect them. I even experienced being scolded by the manager and cried to my supervisor (I would never forget that haha). That’s when I concluded that handling people with different personalities and beliefs is a very big task. It was difficult but I surpassed it and was able to manage the branch.
Now I am working in a food manufacturing company. I can say that working for 3 years as a demanding lady (a demand planner haha) is challenging yet fulfilling. In contrast to my first job which handled only a branch, a demand planner handles the inventory nationwide. Believe me, in my first year at this job, I can hardly sleep well. Haha The decisions that we make every day are vital in maintaining a balanced inventory and are important to serve sales’ orders nationwide. I just got promoted last year as the section head. 😁
In my three years, I have found friends or should I call them family in the company already. The bullies! 🤣
We like to eat, talk and talk and talk- that’s what we always do. Haha Eating during birthdays, farewells, parties, and just simply craving something or talking about any topics - green, gossip, and jokes are our icebreakers. We sometimes do videoke in the office during break time. Haha, We share thoughts, laughter, and tears. I believe that this group of people is one of the reasons why I made it 3 years and counting. I am glad that I have a very vibrant work environment. ❣️
Life experience.
A family picture dtd January 01, 2021.
I come from a poor family. My father used to be a tricycle driver and my mother is a housewife. Living every day with a limited budget for food, we already knew that we should study and work to provide for our family. I was a scholar (thankfully) during college so Papa would just give me 20 pesos ($0.4) every day (30 pesos if he’s in the good mood) and considering that the transportation fee going to school was 14 pesos (back and forth), the 6 pesos left would be my budget for snacks. I belonged to a block section during the night shift so I was still able to do tutorials in the daytime. With the 20 pesos that Papa would give, I was still able to save some money from my tutorial activities. Life was kinda harsh on us but we are always optimistic.
I believe, the biggest part of who I am today is because, of course, of my family (especially my parents) and my past experiences. I don’t know what the future will bring but one thing is for sure, that is, He is preparing the things that will make be better. Aja! I am just thankful and grateful that I have a stable job and am able to provide for my family and do outreach every year.
I hope you’re inspired by my story and learn that small things should be celebrated also.
