Yes, it happens that way. I've done favours for random people and gotten back favours done to me, one thing I'll do is never to push people help me when it feels uncomfortable, but I never stop thanking them if they help in unexpected ways. In reality, good people are rare, and letting them know they're good people is something I personally make sure to do.
