Same "Time", Different "Lives": How Materialistic Are the Things That Drives You?
I've always emphasized the essence of time as a phenomenon that's instrumental to the existence of mankind, and this is because time drives the need for accomplishment and this in turn drives purpose and meaning to the life of a person. Every stage in the life of a person is driven by a different purpose, which is influenced by their upbringing and their environment.
For example, I grew up in an environment that gave me no choice but to see wealth as success and vice versa. There was this belief about the society where I came from: it was believed that we're natural achievers, we're born to be goal-getters, we're seekers of wealth and anyone who doesn't show these particular instincts or traits was seen as "irresponsible" or failures.
This is the kind of compartmentalization which a lot of people are actually guilty of. This means that before your naturally talents, strength, flaws, shortcomings or abilities are recognized you're seen as a project that should yield dividends and this often ends up driving people rather wrongly.
It was reported in the papers a few days ago that a 21-year-old lady stabbed her 50-year-old sugar daddy to death and after the whole story unfolded, I only found one definitive motive stronger than anything: money. See, a lot of people see money as competition. They want to feel woke, they don't mind how long they spend in life provided it can be laced with series of endless spending.
It all boils down again to "timing". See, no matter what anyone would care to think. Everyone has a limited life span, irrespective of health status, wealth, endowments, opportunities or even insurances against risks and danger.
The only reason why we don't seem to notice this is because we're too caught up ensuring we make more money, we end up ignoring the things it eventually costs us or not evaluating the time we have left to spend it. Not a lot of people would agree to this. In life not everyone attains true consciousness of what truly matters and this is because a lot of people do not even have that time to look out for what truly matters. We have bad government in most part of the world because rulers are more inclined to hold on to power more than they're willing to release it.
This creates an endless vacuum, it makes life generally imbalance. A lot of people are heading in a certain direction, it creates unnecessary competition, and it's the reason why people don't extol unique, striving hard to become an achiever in your own chosen endeavor is not praised or lauded. We paint ourselves in endless stereotypes and at the end of the day we lose the quality of being confident in our very own choices, decisions and perception.
This shouldn't be so. In Africa, for example, children are inclined to want to follow a predestined path simply because that path is laden with success with of course is coveted. When a wealthy person doesn't have wealthy children, it's often said that these children are without ambition or responsible.
Now this is "unfair", inasmuch as we want to strive to be better, "be more", stand out and never try to be a disappointment, it's important we find our own journey. In all stages and aspect of life we should learn rather than just pass through life, aimlessly with just one goal in mind. What of happiness? Peace or fulfillment?
We sometimes postpone all these simply because we think or feel we have all the time in the world, we looked at our body, our lives, evaluated ourselves based on variables we've come to trust but at the end of the day we all have the same life span because we do not actually know how much time we have no matter how speculative we might tend to become. This is one of the reasons why we must make our lives our own no matter the race, gender or difference in whatever diversification we have come to categorize ourselves.
