I was listening to a conversation between one of my uncles and a business associate. The man was telling my uncle how he had managed to go to Europe in the late 90s, made money overseas, and came back to Nigeria to invest. Firstly, he talked about the safety of wealth, then the Importance of stability and certainty in Investment.
He explained how it was easy to make money in Europe in the 90s but was difficult to invest there. He spoke about how it was difficult to build investments oversea because one single government ruling or law could strip them of their investments, leaving them penniless.
In reality, the fear brought by this uncertainty, is basically why a lot of Nigerians, make so much money overseas, but they'd still choose to come back to Nigeria to own houses, build factories and companies and rather have their families run these investments for them, but why?
The proof of money is often in its longevity
So many people like myself, fear ground zero, the impact of hitting ground zero, and the fear of never being able to crawl back up. This fear was why I'd rather starve at the moment in a bid to secure the future. Over time I have discovered that without the present, it was difficult to even have a future to secure.
But the point is that fear that comes with uncertainty. What if I had an emergency and I don't have the means to take care of it? Earning very small back then didn't change my mindset. I felt that no matter how awful one's earnings can be, if they cannot take care of an emergency to a sizeable extent, then they're truly poor indeed
So growing up I learned a rather rigid principle; it wasn't in the amount you can make, it was in the amount you could save. Savings brings safety and safety forestall certainty Another reason for this was that the providence of wealth was in its longevity.
The Safety That Comes With Means
Let's forget about what wealth (because it's not generally relatable) is and focus on the sustainability of means. Sustainability of means is the creative concept adopted by a person to make sure that what they're earning (no matter how little) can take care of their means and still grow through ventures that can grow and multiply one's money over time.
Sustainability of means is one of the biggest problems of an average Nigerian. I've seen some people make money in the past, but due to their failure to sustain this means, they went back to unfavorable times. Originally, having money shouldn't bring insurance. At hand, it's only a tool that wields purchasing power.
When money only serves as purchasing power, then whatever safety it promises at that moment is only an illusion. My point here is that one can have money and still be poor. How come? A lot of people focus on having money, they forget that the means to making this money could jeopardize how long one can build on that money.
How Do You Establish Sustainability?
The world provides a lot of opportunities to make money, but why does this feel difficult to believe on the surface? This is because not a lot of these opportunities would guarantee safety, brought by longevity and continuity.
When a person understands how fleeting money can be, it spurs them to channel it into sometimes, that can serve as property, purchasing power as well as returns on investment. This is why some others choose to own houses, lands, or gold.
These things bring certainty especially as cash flow reduces and diminishing returns begin to set in. Take a look at Crypto, it's beginning to revolutionize how these works. For example, A Hive Stake is equal to owning money vested in a prospect. The fact that you're not holding and spending it doesn't mean you're poor. The proof of money isn't its spending.
Owning A Hive Stake
Now a Hive stake has the properties of traditional real-time investment and even displaces it in many sophisticated ways. Howbeit, it is very volatile. Irrespective of this volatility, does it makes one feel safe? This question is unique and the answer isn't inalienable.
If you understand the basics of life economics, then your answer would be in the affirmative. Hive to me is providence, it's aim to me is to provide means to procure safety, Then I can use this safety to buy back means (Hive).
This is the secret of growth I've cultivated over the years. In truth, we don't have to be rigorous about our principles anymore. The aim isn't money. The aim is to have safety. It's important to realize that we should be tailored to striving for financial safety, and making money is just the beginning.
