Hello friends of family and friends! I am writing these lines to express a little of my experience with respect to a subject that although it is not very pleasant, I consider that it is part of life and corresponds to when our family and friends leave us.
I can tell you about my particular case, and I can tell you that I had the fortune that in my early childhood I did not experience the departure of my relatives, my paternal grandfather had passed away before I was born, and my relatives were always there.
*At age 5 my maternal grandfather had suffered a stroke but gradually recovered, so I did not understand how close he came to death at that time, but it gave me a glimpse of what it is like to care for a loved one.
When I was 13 years old I had the first impact with reality, I remember my beloved uncle, who died suddenly due to heart problems, at that time, my parents went to the clinic but did not give me much information, when a call came to the house, asking for the place where the wake would be, which impacted me, especially because the one who had kept us worried about his health was my grandfather, I never thought my uncle would go first.
The impact of seeing a wake in my family, of seeing and feeling the suffering of losing someone I could no longer talk to was something that left an indelible mark.
From then on I had to begin to experience my own relationship with the departure of loved ones, my grandfather passed away two years later, but the experience was different because somehow I feel that I could say goodbye, and another uncle the following year, which always hurts, but somehow it makes us more humble, regarding what we should do, to take advantage of the time with them.
As time went by, my grandmothers and two other uncles left, including some friends and acquaintances of my own age, who taught me that even if a person is young, the time we have here should be taken advantage of and shared.
In recent years I have learned to deal with the departure of my first son, who died a few hours after he was born, the internal pain that is felt is simply very strong and I do not wish it on anyone, because we all have an order of life that is not always fulfilled.
More than two years ago I lost my father, although it was not because of covid, it happened in the middle of the pandemic, I always considered that he was the person who understood me the most and not having him to talk to is something I feel very much, although in some way it comforts me to be with him in his last moments, because we can not do more than express the love we have for our loved ones.
Around me I saw many people in that time also lose their loved ones, I saw how a former classmate, lost his father, and then months later he also left this plane, I think he was too young to leave but I guess it was his time.
Another thing I have learned from these experiences is to respect the way in which people deal with the pain of a loss, some cry, others even dance to honor the memory of those who are gone, the only thing we can do is to keep them in our hearts, and be able to assert their teachings, in our lives and to the next generations, to assert their passage on this earth and in our lives.
Thank you very much for reading!
