Greetings Friends of Motherhood, today I would like to share with you a reflection regarding the feelings of our children when they must face the reality that some loved ones are no longer with us.

source

A little less than a month ago my daughter lost her grandfather, (in this case my father-in-law and he was the one she had left since my father passed away about three years ago), the situation was sudden because from one moment to another after being well and sharing with us a few days before, a complication of the heart led to his departure.

In the midst of our pain and surprise for what happened, I started to think about my daughter, who in her young age could not assimilate what was happening and as she would no longer see her loved one, the first thing I did was to take her home while we were resolving the funeral matters so that she could be calm.

Then I explained to her that this loved one could no longer be with us because he went to a better place, I don't know if she understood it completely but she realized the situation, I was talking to her a lot, since the situation is more difficult for my wife, and I realized that little by little she has been adapting.

The most complicated thing for them (the children) is to realize that the loved one will be no more and their reactions may be different from those of an adult because they still do not understand how to assume their feelings as we do. they can express them with tantrums, and even trying to avoid everything related to what causes them pain, even from the point of view of the health of the little ones.

In my daughter's case this happened because she was recently discharged from the hospital due to a pneumonia problem that had her hospitalized, she relapsed a few days later, we as parents have tried to be there for her while she has been relieving herself and her health with the treatments has improved again.

The most important thing from my perspective is to always be watching their reactions, allowing them to express themselves in an atmosphere of trust and understanding, answering their questions and trying to explain in simple words what happened, always open to seek help if necessary, the important thing is that they feel supported at times like these.

As parents we must always draw strength to protect our children, this includes being able to handle painful situations even when it affects us personally, because we are their point of support in difficult times, so the management of emotions is important.

For the time being we must take one day at a time to our daughter, try to keep the happiness of her childhood and that she understands that these are things that happen in life, that she can always count on us as her parents so that she can go through the grief.

Thank you very much for reading!
