What's more IMPORTANT? FINANCIAL SECURITY or LIFE EXPERIENCE? - DTUBE DAILY #26
Hey everyone!
In today's video I want to raise a really big question: what's more important? Financial Security of Life Experience? Is there a balance?
For as long as I can remember, I've always had a huge internal pull to travel and explore this world and to experience new cultures and meet new people along the way. I went to college after high school because I was basically taught if I didn't continue my education or join the military I'd be a loser for the rest of my life. I went to school for four years, struggling hard the entire way because I didn't feel like it was my purpose, before I finally built up the courage to drop out and start saving up some money to travel.
Finally I had the money saved up to buy the gear I needed to properly start my travel vlog and buy my first international plane ticket. I spent three months traveling around SE Asia having the most incredible experience of my life so far. I had no worries on this trip because I knew I had a ticket home and enough money to get back on my feet afterwards and work towards my next trip.
But my entire time in SE Asia I kept meeting people who highly recommended going to Australia to do a working holiday visa. And I didn't want to go home and end the adventure. I wanted to keep going, so I skipped my flight home (which I did end up being broke at this point) and I borrowed a bit of cash from two of my siblings and bought a ticket to Australia. SE Asia was amazing, why wouldn't Australia be as well?
Well, I don't want to discredit Australia at all. It was amazing and I really wish I could spend more time there, but the financial struggles that came along with my experience there (mixed with some other internal struggles about my life path) I really struggled and went through a rough time. I finally found a job and managed to save up money to move to Chile and live with my (now ex) girlfriend. But even in Chile (though I was much happier there), there were financial struggles that effected me on a daily basis.
I've realized that I do indeed need some financial stability to be able to fully enjoy myself while traveling and exploring. So for me (MY SOLUTION, yours will be different of course), I'm now working towards the balance point where I can still enjoy myself while traveling. I still fully believe life experiences by far trumps money, but money is unfortunately needed for everything else to work. What is my solution...
VAN LIFE. I swear to the gods guys, this is where I need to take my life. My goal by next year is to buy and convert a van for living it. This will allow me the freedom to move about as I please in the States and Canada, while still having the security of a roof over my head. I also won't have to pay rent, which I've always hated doing, and I can put that money now towards travels, vehicle maintenance, and other dreams.
Anyways guys, this is a question I've really been struggling with for the last couple years, and I'm still not totally sure where my balance point is at. I think van life is definitely the way to go, but I still need to work towards building a film business with my brother, and I'll DEFINITELY still be an active member of this beautiful community of Steemit and DTube.
So what's your balance point? What's your approach to all this? Do you lean more towards career and family and a house with a secure roof over your head, or towards world experience and straight up YOLOing it? I'd love to hear what you guys have to say about this in the comments below.
