Social media!
It's changed everything...And given birth to amazing blockchains like HIVE. The dream of building something as awesome as this on a blockchain has fired up the imagination of so many...
However, we've never seemed to be able to get that mass adoption we've been looking for.
Sure onboarding can be improved. Marketing is always important...But I believe the biggest reason most haven't jump onto HIVE is because human beings are driven by something that onboarding and marketing can't deliver...
I've got no PHd in psychology, I'm just a dude who joined Twitter and Facebook literally when they launched...And hopefully, this little post can shed some light on what drives them and why in general, social media based blockchains have a tougher time onboarding new users...
You see....Social media is built for the narcissist in each of us!
Think about it....
The 'currency' on traditional social media platforms are likes and comments...The more likes and comments you get on your post, the better you feel about your actions on it. There are the influencers that get paid for their content but for the everyday Jill and Joe, it's all about likes and comments...
For better or worse...That's what makes them 'tik' <------- See what I did there Tik Tok fans?
People love to be noticed and whether it's Facebook, Twitter, Instagram (especially) or Snapchat...People thrive off the number of likes and comments they get.
All coming from a deep rooted human desire to boost their ego.
We want the attention. We crave it.
Which is the same on HIVE...To an extent! And I'll dive into that now...
In a way, we all STILL want more likes (upvotes) here on HIVE...However, this is driven from a financial aspect rather than just being noticed for showing our bikini pics or six packs.
(Trust me, me in a bikini is legendary!!!)
Which is fine for some folks...
But with HIVE there is something deeper...At least from my experience here.
There is a true sense of belonging on HIVE. Which I have never found on any other social media platform...Ever.
I don't know about you, but I don't feel 'appreciated' or even warm and fuzzy when I'm scrolling down my Facebook feed. Sure it's cool to see what Grandma Jones is baking today and where Cousin Bob took the kids on vacation last year...But the real reason I think we're all on traditional social media is to...Feed the egos.
Weird....
But again....HIVE seems deeper than that to me.
I put those same posts up on HIVE, I get engaging comments and awesome support from the community. And when I put a post about my kid's first birthday up...SAME THING!
I get very similar engagement and awesome support!
(149 upvotes...The comments are there, but a little lower than normal.)
(A little lower upvotes, but a boost in comments!)
Hive truly is...Remarkable!
The sense of belonging is fantastic. The censorship resistance. The ability to build a brand and develop long time relationships here....Is just awesome!
Look, I can't judge anyone...Some people love posting their pics up on social media for the likes. For the ego boost. For whatever floats their boat...And that's fine.
But on the blockchain....It just feels different.
I think once we bridge the gap between giving people a sense of belonging with a little touch of ego boosting...We'll bring something to the world that has never yet been seen...
Until then...
And I'll still use traditional social media to highlight how amazing HIVE is....Ego or not, my message will always be:
Everyone should jump onboard HIVE!
Join the 'Swarm'!
And see what all the excitement is on our little side of the internet ;)
