Let me put this out there from the get go...
I love this blockchain!
I've been here since December 2017 and have no plans on leaving any time soon. The people here, are incredible. The devs are top notch. The products are one of a kind. So why on earth would Jongo be frustrated?
If you recall my post from yesterday, I was super pumped up to learn that Ecency had launched a brand new 'mailing list' builder of sorts.
This is something I tried to build myself years ago but failed. So to see this on chain, just made me super excited for what this could mean for content creators here.
The thought of being able to build a mailing list, directly on chain is awesome and I plan on even starting up some blog series about how we can do that as individuals!
But then I started thinking about...What we have here on each platform.
Videos via 3speak.
Paid subscriber content via LEO (even if they have fallen off the deep end lately lol)
An incredible short form content app via Snapie.
And now email building via Ecency.
Problem is...Each of these features is on individual platforms LOL
And I get it, it's web3, this is how this blockchain works. As the claims of decentralization literally means...Everything isn't centralized.
So if you want to take advantage of each feature....You kind of need to use them all. Which can be UBER frustrating for creators that want to use and support the chain.
If it's frustrating for us...Imagine what happens when we try to promote this to newer creators and members...
Normie: So I can upload videos like TikTok?
Hiver: Yeah, you just need to use 3speak..And some others platforms can do it too?
Normie: What do you mean other platforms?
Hiver: Well, the main site 3speak is like YouTube...But then for the TikTik experience you can view and upload short form on Snapie and Ecency.
Normie: That sounds like a lot of work. O.K., what if I want to use it like SubStack? I can use 3speak right?
Hiver: No, you need to use Ecency for that.
Normie: O.K. I'm out.....
Again, we have all the best tools in our toolbox but there is zero centralized platform to use it all...Which just hurts our potential for adoption even more. Nevermind we need to explain account keys to start lol
And again..I get it. It's what Hive is. Individual devs and communities, building whatever they can and share it with us to use. And for that, I'm forever grateful.
But the 'marketer' and actual user of this stuff gets frustrated thinking out loud mind you, that we are missing huge opportunities to onboard more people here because things are so fragmented.
What do you think?
Are we ever going to work together? Get out of our own way? Or is this the low priority issue and we need to worry about the DHF more?
I'd love to hear your thoughts :)
