It's time for another fun filled adventure with Trucker Jongo!
In today's episode, we go through the events that I've dealt with as a new trucker over the past few weeks.
The first hiccup was last week when my coolant line exploded and I was stuck on the side of a highway for about 5 hours until my co-worker came with some extra coolant to fill up my tank with.
Lesson - Bring coolant with you, and have a wrench on hand!
Next hiccup, last week as well....Remember you are driving a 53 foot trailer, which means...You need to make extra wide right turns.
Lesson - Check your turns or else you will puncture a tire or two.
Another hiccup, when driving through the mountains, the amount of coolant you have is never enough!
Lesson - Bring water as well as coolant to top up when you don't have enough!
The first lesson of today was, retreaded tires are great for saving money but they can fail pretty quickly!
And finally, this evening's lesson....
As seen in the images above....Coolant is your friend and enemy. When your hoses aren't properly secured, you can expect to sit on the side of the highway for hours waiting for coolant to be brought to you.
So what's the point of this post?
Lessons in adversity. I have to admit it, I've felt like giving up on this trucking thing multiple times over the past week just because everything seems to break. But this evening a fellow trucker who has been driving for 30 plus years stopped to see if I needed help...
His advice....
The best thing you can deal with when starting this career is...Curve balls!
Adversity!
His words will really stick with me going forward because he put in the effort at the start, dealt with some drama himself...Now he has his own truck, his own company and is in every sense of the word...An entrepreneur!
That's the goal for me as well. I truly believe my future will be prosperous in this industry for the next decade at least. But I've got to learn how to strike out a few times. And be o.k. with it.
It's always a learning process...No matter if you are building businesses online, or trying to keep your truck on the road.
Always be learning, and learn to deal with adversity!
