Have you looked around the world lately?
It's rough out there.
The cost of living has sky rocketed, there's famines, wars, diseases that looking to take us out at every change it gets...
It's almost like this is a fallen, sin inflicted world.
That's because it is.
Some that aren't of faith, may point to the heavens and say...If there was really a God, why is there so much suffering and misery?
Actually, sometimes it's even people of faith that point to the heavens and start blaming God.
However sometimes I think we forget what the bible actually says....Jesus said 'an enemy has done this'. Job was tormented by the devil. Sin came into the earth hidden within the trees of paradise. Yes, we forget why there is suffering and misery.
When we go through these times of tribulation, hold fast to the promises of God.
I think this is why the apostle Paul writes:
Things above!
I've spoken about this before, but I think it needs repeating for this object lesson about setting our sights on heaven.
My favorite verse in the bible for years was always Proverbs 16:18, which says that pride goes before destruction. This was my calling card when I became filled with ego, and selfish mindsets.
It humbled me!
But the further I went on my walk with Christ, Matthew 6:33 has become my new go-to verse...
His kingdom is what I want to focus on! And it's not easy because we live in such a fallen world. Like I mentioned above, there are so many things that are designed to keep our attention from God, it's a miracle that we go commit that time with Him.
Those wars, political distractions, social media drama...All of it is designed to keep you focused on the earth. But this is not our home forever.
Ours is with God!
That's the promise you see Him clearly state in John 14:
Those are my wife's favorite verses by the way :)
But what a promise!
That's such a comfort to me because if you track all the promises and prophecies within the pages of Scripture, everything has come to fruition. In fact, there's something like 300 Messianic prophecies that were directly fulfilled by Jesus Christ.
And if the bible said it, it's happening!
So Christ's words are just a promise, they are literally life in itself!
This is what I hold onto. It's not blind faith, it's a living faith that shows me that my God is faithful, just and always delivers.
And as the Sabbath hours draw near, I'm reminded that He created this little slice of time to spend with us. These are the most precious hours of my week, and it allows me to truly rest in my Lord and Savior.
