Oh Twitter!
As you know, this is the social media platform of choice for the crypto savvy. People that are the experts in Web3 (lol) gravitate towards it. Political rants are everywhere. And of course, this seems to be where the majority of the world gets their news.
Let's just say, I have a love-hate relationship with it.
A quick story with Jongo...
I joined Twitter, pretty much at the beginning. We're talking, May 2008. Not only does this date me and show the world how old I am, but also that from the beginning I 'got' it. I saw the potential of that platform and out of every traditional social media site out there, it's the one I've used the most over the years.
I try to stay away from the drama there, but I do find a ton of value for keeping up on my favorite sports stories and of course, watching what the 'influencers' are ranting about in the cryptocurrency space.
So when Leo Finance started the chatter a few years ago about 'Project Blank', to say I was intrigued is the understatement of the century. A blockchain based Twitter-esque platform? And it's built on Hive?
Where do I sign up?
The promise of this blockchain to me always comes back to this. And some may not like to hear it but....Being rewarded for your time, effort and attention. If we're going to spend hours upon hours here on any social media platform, our content that we create should be rewarded. Not too mention, our content remains ours forever!

Back to Twitter, and this year has been interesting...
Even since Elon Musk took over, there's been a lot of hype surrounding it. Lots of hate too, but that's another story. But Elon has plans for Twitter and one of them showed up recently that I wanted to highlight....
So here's Elon, telling the world how awesome it'll be when content creators are rewarded for their efforts and content on Twitter. Sounds familiar right? lol
'Subscriptions' is Twitter's new endeavour to send some income to the content creators for their time and effort spend on the platform. Eerily similar to things like Patreon, this is part of the bigger 'tipping economy' in social media that's been popular over the past few years.
Subscriptions huh....Let's see what it takes to be able to get 'tipped' on Twitter.
Small group?
Elite influencers I'm sure. You know, the ones that push the latest Initial Coin Offering(ICOs) or Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) to unsuspecting followers. Those cream of the class types. Surely I would never be accepted into the elite of elites....
Well, let's press a few buttons and see what they say....
Welp. No bueno!
Apparently, to get past the first step of being 'approved' to accept subscriptions, one must pay. Hmmmm, isn't that illegal? MLM companies have been accused of this for years.....You must pay money to make money....
Anywho, let's give the benefit of the doubt of Twitter and their legal teams for a second. This was just step one of the process. There was no indication that I would be accepted to received subscription payments on the next step. So, let's just say for now....Looks like Jongo is one of the common folk lol
Back to Hive and more specifically, Leo Threads....
You see, we have no gate keepers here.
There's no level of 'influence' one has to reach to be rewarded for their content. What a crazy concept!
Now I know, there will be some that say you have to be on the radar of the whales to make anything decent on the blockchain, but if you earn 0.001 Hive from your content....That's a heck of a lot more than you would with Twitter (excuse me....) On 'Common Folk' Twitter.
This is why I'm so bullish on Leo as well. What is being developed here is going to change everything for content creators online. Like I mentioned, we don't have gate keepers here. Just show up, put in the work and deliver value to the blockchain....You will be rewarded!
There's no butts to kiss, no billionaires to impress, real people are here actually living this web3 thing in front of everyone to see. And I know, we have some other amazing options on here to cater to that tipping economy, and that's a story for another day as well. But right now, today, we have the tools and the applications that could potentially change the landscape for social media creators across all platforms.
So yeah...I love Twitter. It's the social media platform that I enjoy the most of all the traditional ones. Short form content, I don't feel like I need to write a Pulitzer Prize winning article every day. It's where the cryptoverse seems to congregate....
But guess what, I love Hive and Leo much much more! This is the future of real web3. Filled with real people, no fake-for the lights influencers...
Web2 just feels like a necessary evil until that day comes...
