You can't control what happens to you but you can control how you respond

When something bad happens in your life, be it finance related, relationship related, or just some other effed up thing you can't control don't get mad about it, get better.

Have you been scammed by some nefarious character in your life?

Have you been let down in a relationship?

Have you had something just not go according to plan that ended up costing you greatly in one way or another?

I think most of us out there can say yes to at least one of those questions, probably all of them to be honest.

Well, the age old advice is to not get mad, get even.

But I'm here to tell you that is terrible advice.

I got scammed many times when I was younger in different things and it didn't really stop as I got older and got into investing.

Someone out there is always looking to take from others.

Roll back the clock a few decades and I just got into investing.

I got caught up in penny stock investing where I made some quick money getting lucky on some pump and dump stocks.

After starting with a couple grand I quickly had almost $40k in my investing account.

Something I was pretty proud of!

Well, my next few trades in penny stock land were all mired with scams and fraud and eventually that $40k turned into nothing.

It was a very painful lesson and something that set me back years in my investing career.

However, instead of getting mad at these people and holding anger in my heart and revenge in my head, I learned from this.

I learned what to invest in and what not to invest in. I learned to manage my risk infinity better. I learned better how to spot scams etc.

Overall the experience, while painful, ultimately taught me many lessons I might not have learned otherwise.

I was fortunate to learn them early in my investing career before really big money was involved.

I didn't get mad about what happened to me, I got better.
