Hello and good morning all. Today's post will be a short read but hopefully not unworthy.
Carved a couple years ago was this custom moose with a barn board welcome sign.
I do tons of welcome bears but this time one of my clients ordered a moose.
Here he is chainsaw only...
Went through the normal routine of burning it with a torch, scraping the char off, flapsanding, and airbrushing color. As well as making the sign from barn board. I used a block type font, another easy way using the chainsaw. The wood was dark, so I had to paint the letters white for them to be more visible, or as we say "pop"
This was after varnish.
I mostly use a water based deck and fence sealer called CW Flood Clear Natural. Over the years I've used many different varnishes and sealers and this one does the job well. It's easy to apply, clean up, dries within an hour and doesn't make the sculptures look like plastic. Best part is it's only $20 a gallon versus it's oil based equivalent at $60-80 a gallon.
I hinted in a previous post about my current project and I plan on posting about it exclusively. But thought to give you a sneak peek to make my post longer.
He is 7 foot tall and I'll be starting to build his antlers today. Should finish him up this week. Stay tuned..
