I just read a set of books called the broken empire. In my opinion, those have to be the greatest trilogy ever written. It follows the life of a young prince named Jorg Ancrath. When Jorg was a boy, he, his little brother and mother were on their way back to their kingdom from a carnival they attended when they got attacked. To save the heir, Jorg was thrown into a patch of briar thorns but not deep enough that he couldn't see what was happening, he hung and watched his mother got raped and then had her throat slit open as she screamed because they smashed his brother on a rock. Jorg hung and bled powerless and when they found him the extra day, he was almost dead. He was in a coma for weeks but the moment he woke up, he looked at his teacher and said.

" Is revenge an art or a science, teacher?"

This shaped the boy's life and made drove him down a path of destruction that to him was justified. It is a good read and its unique in the sense that in any other novel, Jorg would be the antagonist but since this book follows his story, he seems the protagonist even though he murders brutally and has little respect for life. I encourage any one who loves a good story to read this trilogy.
