Part 6 of our Middle Earth: Shadow of War playthrough picks up immediately where we left off. Shelob has returned Celebrimbor’s ring after the Nazghul descended on her cave and nearly killed her. Their thirst for the power of the rings is undying and she knows by keeping it she’d always be in peril. An elven warrior blessed with Galdriel’s light helped you save Shelob and the ring. With the ring back in your possession you set off for the coastal province of Nurnen. A lush forested area teeming with orcs. You intend on using the power of the ring to enslave the minds of the brutish orcs in order to raise an army of your own to face Sauron. After testing the ring you find it can turn orc against orc brother against brother. Your army will be loyal only to you.

You travel to the Nurnen fight pits to find the strongest orcs around to begin building your army. You challenge Bruz the local champion. He’s a vicious opponent and nearly pulverizes you. But you turn the tables on him and break him prior to dominating his mind. Bruz turns out to be a very useful ally and his advice on how to corrupt and manipulate the local Captains proves invaluable. With his assistance you carve a swath through Nurnren and either recruit or remove every Captain Loyal to the Overlord’s Warchiefs. Systematically you have those bodyguards betray their Warchief and you mount many successful ambushes. With them out of the way you replace them with your own people. Now with every one of the Overlord’s Warchiefs, his most trusted commanders, secretly working for you it’s time to storm his fortress.
You assemble your army in the plains outside of the fortress. The overlord steps out onto a balcony overlooking your forces. He’s a mammoth two headed Olog. He comes out and in the orcish language of Black Speech he tells you and your forces that he will kill you all. You tell Bruz to focus on the fortresses remaining defenders while you go after the Overlord. The siege goes off without a hitch. Your forces smash through the fortress wall and converge on the gatehouse. Gubu the Wanderer, the Warchief charged with defending it, join you as you push towards the main courtyard. The Fiery Terror Tank, Hoshgrish Flesh-Burner, comes at you with his flaming heavy maces before he turns on his Overlord and joins your side. Your ploy was successful. As your Captain’s clear out the remaining unfriendly soldiers you enter the throne room.
A Strange Turn of Events
This fort belongs to the Bright Lord now you yell out as the Overlord rises to his feet and towers over you. A moment later one of his heads appears to fall off as a helmet crashes to the ground. Suddenly a skinny little orc climbs out of the helmet. It’s Ratbag! An old orcish ally from your past who you thought died during your fight against the Black Hand. You ask him how he’s still alive. He scoffs, what me getting hit with that hammer, that was a headache at most. You want to kill an Uruk you have to take his head clean off. Does the job every time. How did you end up hear you ask him?
He tells you how he and the Olog were captured by cannibal slavers and he was able to free them both making them best of friends. In Black Speech that neither you nor Ratbag understand the Olog states you saved my life we are not friends. Ratbag continues and says that Ranger killed the old Overlord and after that they just sort of took it over. Ranger you ask? Oh yeah, I named him after you he says referring to the giant Olog. I’m honored you jest. Bruz interrupts and says it’s been nice catching up but the Bright Lord and I just came by to tell you the fort’s ours now. Ratbag mocks him calling you the Bright Lord but says he’s done with the Overlord game anyway. He says it’s too much work.
A New Power Rises
Bruz mocks Ratbag and says oh well now your troubles are over because I’m the new Overlord. Ratbag spins around, no, no, no anyone but you. Whatever you need, he tells you, me and Ranger have got you covered but Bruz cannot be Overlord. Ranger agrees. Bruz is incensed and tells you he’s not working for these two. Ratbag says that works out perfectly and they continue to argue. You converse with Celebrimbor who suggests you choose your Overlord carefully. But before you do, you step out to the balcony to address your army. We fought and suffered but still we stand. There is a new power in Mordor, you! In the days ahead we will fight other battles and claim other fortresses. But starting today Mordor belongs to you! Mordor belongs to the Bright Lord!
