Crypto Bay returned for our sixth meetup with more entrepreneurs & business professionals delivering talks & discussions from diverse backgrounds. For this meetup, we had Francisco Teixeira from Microsoft Azure talk about Blockchain applications for businesses. We also had the Phantasma protocol team in attendance to deliver a presentation. We met these guys at the NEO event earlier in the week and we were very happy that they could also put aside the time to present at the Crypto Bay. The final presentation was delivered by Fintech startup Monaize who rushed in last minute to fill in for a prior speaker who couldn’t make it. Despite the last minute notice they delivered a smooth presentation giving a nice overview of their startup. I also gave a quick market overview of the cryptosphere and I was happy to be able to also show my creative side when detailing the Verge partnership:
The Phantasma protocol team followed up my presentation. The team is dealing with a hot topic right now which is how businesses deal with consumer’s content and data. This is a hugely important area especially with the recent Facebook scandal. The guys are building a decentralised protocol that has both storage applications and messaging applications. In attendance were the marketing manager Alexandre Paixão who delivered the presentation, and co-founders Sérgio Flores and Miguel Ferreira. Sérgio Flores is also a key developer for City of Zion. There was some heated discussion about this project after the presentation with not everybody being a fan of the project. With Microsoft Azure, Francisco works in the Irish, Portuguese, and Spanish markets essentially providing private blockchain solutions which operate off the Ethereum blockchain. Francisco’s deep knowledge definitely came across in the presentation with a wide overview of blockchain being applied to businesses being provided and some examples of where it is being adopted and where some of the shortcomings are. A demo was also provided of some the projects which are currently ongoing. It is interesting to see how big player names such as Microsoft are setting up for the business landscape once blockchain becomes more engrained in operations. In relation to this, there was also news today of Amazon receiving a patent to acquire bitcoin user data which could be indicative of a setup to enter the space. Hauwei also announced that they are going to be doing blockchain-as-a-service.
The final presentation was delivered by Monaize. These guys were on the beach when they got a called from Crypto Bay co-founder RobbieKay. Nonetheless, they made it over ready to present and talk about their business. These guys are from the fintech area. They are all about providing banking services quickly and effectively to a target market of freelancers and SME’s.
