The Rebel.jpg

There is no love of life without despair of life.
—Albert Camus

Almost September
And tomato vines yellow,

The garden tired,
Leaves sallow,

As summer succumbs
To seasonal drought.

Each year I’m surprised—
Not sure why,

The weather’s warm
Yet the flowers stop.

I want them to defy
Entropic logic

The cosmic clock,
Time’s palsy.

Rebel and grasp
The quicksilver of now,

Resist the fall…
Autumn’s autopsy.
