I'm a great believer in happy endings. I know art should exhibit verisimilitude - a true-to-life perspective, but it should also uplift the reader and create a sense of wonder about the beauties and mysteries of life. I don't see the point in always hanging a dismal picture on the wall. That's my beef with Nicholas Sparks - he always seems to kill off a main character and it becomes formulaic.
You are certainly not immature in your views. I think maturity is something we strive for but are never quite able to achieve. I'll probably reach it one minute after my death, lol.
