Be open; be bewildered.
In dread dark forlorn,
The static hiss of rain
Against the window pane
It's a normal human rite
Awake in the night,
While lightning
Bares its arm
To seek shelter
From all harm.
Animals like men
Burrow in their dens
Some augury within
Scents danger in the wind,
So all remain in place
And let the tempest rage
While storms
Break overhead
I'm not safe
From our distress.
