Wren was Passionate and Jealous
I had looked forward to touching base with Wren and exchanging intel about what we both uncovered about Matt Barr and friends.
But I hadn't anticipated her suspicion of Tara Stone, my colleague who let me stay in the cottage. Her questions about Tara's motives really upset me, especially when she asked if we had been intimate.
I know she was covering all the bases and being objective, which is understandable considering she's an investigative reporter, but this felt more like a betrayal and I couldn't understand that.
But then, a moment of clarity came when she confessed that she asked whether Tara and I had been intimate because she was feeling insecure.
Jealousy is a green-eyed monster and makes all of us do things we later regret.
I can forgive Wren for being human and faltering for a moment. I'm not perfect either, and if Wren had a close friendship with a male, I would also feel jealous.
As it is, I feel reassured Wren has deep feelings for me and we're both in agreement that Tara was unaware of Barr's involvement in the terror attack.
"Are you ready to hear my news?" I asked.
"Are you saying you and Luc discovered some new intel about Barr?"
I nodded. "We not only discovered something about Barr but other members of his clan."
Her jaw dropped. "You constantly surprise me. You seem to have a natural talent for investigative work."
"Or maybe my natural naïveté just gets me into sticky situations."
She shook her head, "whichever way you look at it, you uncover new information."
"Let me tell you what happened," I began. " I turned a camera on Matt Barr's property to watch his comings and goings. If something looked suspicious, I'd get Luc to plant a tracking device in Barr's truck."
"So what did you notice?"
"I saw Barr was loading equipment of some type into his truck, so I called Luc and together we spied on him. When we saw the lights go out next door, Luc snuck out to plant an Air tag in Barr's truck while I kept watch in case Barr suddenly came back out."
"Sounds dangerous," she frowned.
"No, I had promised you we'd avoid anything dangerous. At the slightest motion from the house, I'd order Luc to retreat and come back in.
Wren didn't look happy but I could see she was dying to know what we found.
"So Luc planted the Air tag. After a while, Barr drove off, stealthily, to avoid being noticed. We followed him on the Find My app on Luc's cell to an old abandoned barn where he met up with Ed Creary from the liquor store and the rogue cop we've all been have looking for."
"You're kidding me! Chet Cole is hunkered down just outside town?"
"Yep, and the three of them off-loaded the crates into that old barn. They're planning something but it was too risky to let Luc plant a spy cam inside the barn... but we have a cam recording continuously, watching the main door."
Wren was so happy she kissed me full and long on my lips, and believe me, it was worth the risk we went through to receive that kind of sweet reward.
"You guys uncovered the clan's hideout, located the fugitive cop and set up a 24/7 watch on the barn―and you're upset you weren't able to plant a bug inside? Unbelievable!"
"Yeah, but we need to know what they're planning," I moaned.
"That's why we have Kate and Sam and all the resources of the OPP―they can listen in to what's being said inside. Well now they can, seeing you've tracked down their whereabouts and are monitoring their movements."
I had just wanted to win Wren’s respect, but gaining her admiration went far beyond my expectations.
I felt flattered as when she told me she was jealous of my relationship with Wren. I was starting to like the man I was becoming.
