When winds thunder
And rushing shadows
Race on walls,
I still sense
the chill of fear
And hear on stairs
A faint footfall.
The empty desert
Of quiet hours
Wide awake
In a creaking house,
With the Moon face
At the window
Just the cat
And no one else.
It was then
You came to comfort
Stayed near
Through all my fear,
Turned darkness
To hand shadows
Wiped away
My boyhood fears.
