But you didn’t come;
Looked for you
In leaves
Rushing
Down lonely streets,
The sky wild
With moon and cloud
And lamps’ shadows
On a wall.
Desolate
And adrift
As falling leaves
My thoughts
Whirled about
Winding streets
And blown
Scraps of poems
Scattered
In empty lots…
So haunted,
The sheeted ghosts
Stilled
Their shrieks and moans
And stayed home.
