These books…these parchments of past and present sorrows…
they will be our record and will requite us in the end

I used to call it my life
This mapless jouney
Laying tracks
Through uncharted territories
Where night trains
Shunt cars
And travel
To mysterious destinations

But one day
I realized
Everything
I wanted
Was wrapped
In brown paper packages
Freighted
On those trains

Living letters
Addressed to us

You have the same initials
As my mother
And I still receive mail
In her name
From the infinite

And our son
Had the same initials
As my father
And he perpetuates
The flame

And so they’ve never left
But become a part of me

And of us

So we are here,
Our lives
Tied up in bundles
And I’ve parceled myself
In these identities
We shared

Not that it’s been easy
Shuttling, rumbling
And moving between places
But you’ve been here
Beside me

And like all those who
Matter most to me

You’ve never left
